Company history

Consumers-Sklo-Zorya, the leading Ukrainian glassware producer, was founded by Consumers Packaging Inc., Canada, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Zorya Agricultural Firm in January 1997. In November 1998, the new furnace was started up, and in June 1999, the plant reached its normal operational level.

1999 was the first full year of the plant’s operation; in 1999, the plant met its production objectives, exceeded the estimated efficiency indices, and started the new year with positive balance.

In 2001, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development became the major shareholder of the company, which was now registered as a closed joint-stock company and received a name of Consumers-Sklo-Zorya. In 2001, production and financial aims increased if compared with the previous two years of the plant’s operation. The constant financial growth of the company was based on more effective use of the plant’s facilities and better planning of the product mix.

In March, 2004 Consumers-Sklo-Zorya celebrated the Grand Opening of its second production shop to produce premium flint glassware. What made this project possible was a loan provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the principal shareholder of CSZ. With the new shop, CSZ doubled its production volumes. The narrow neck press and blow technology (NNBP) set on one of the IS-machines helps noticeably decrease the weight of glassware and guarantee even glass distribution, which makes the bottle stronger and eliminates breakage on the filling lines.

In 2005, Saint-Gobain’s Packaging Sector acquired majority stakes in Ukraine-based Consumers-Sklo-Zorya. With over 15,000 employees across the globe and 78 manufacturing facilities in Europe, the Americas, Saint-Gobain’s Packaging Sector is a world and European leader. Building on a tradition of glass manufacturing, a dynamic workforce, and the wealth of expertise brought by Saint-Gobain, SGZ was able to offer their customers glass packaging that meets the most stringent technical requirements.

In the end of 2006 the third production shop had started to work, equipped with new Saint-Gobain European standards glass making and quality control machines.

Today, CSZ is one of the most efficient enterprises in this business field; in many respects, the plant is ahead similar western businesses. The goal of the company is to meet the growing requirements of our customers and increase the level of quality and service by re-investing in our production facilities, which will help keep the plant’s position as the leading producer of the high-quality custom glassware on the Ukrainian market.
